В ходе базовой оценки, проведенной в пяти странах (Армения, Беларусь, Грузия, Кыргызстан и Македония) в рамках Региональной программы ЕКОМ «Право на здоровье», реализуемой при финансовой поддержке ГФ, был подготовлен обзор участия представителей сообществ МСМ и транс* людей в процессах принятия решений в сфере ВИЧ.

На начальном этапе оценки был разработан протокол исследования, а также инструменты количественной и качественной оценки. По каждому компоненту первого инструмента странам были присвоены баллы, за исключением первого компонента, состоящего исключительно из характеристик социально-экономического развития страны.

An accurate estimation of the population size of men who have sex with men (MSM) is critical
to the success of HIV program planning and to monitoring of the response to epidemic
as a whole, but is quite often missing. In this study, our aim was to estimate the population
size of MSM in Tbilisi, Georgia and compare it with other estimates in the region.

There is concern that the tremendous economic, social, and political upheavals that the Republic of
Georgia has undergone in the years since the fall of the Soviet Union may have created an environment fertile for HIV transmission. Notably absent from official statistics and HIV-related research in Georgia is discussion of men who have sex with men (MSM) and, therefore, little is known about the MSM population or its potential to acquire or transmit HIV.
