ILGA-Europe toolkit for training police offi cers on tackling LGBTI-phobic crime

Among all the actions undertaken by ILGA-Europe to combat LGBTI-phobic hate crime, it quickly became clear that providing tools to help our members and other LGBTI organisations to engage with police forces meets a particularly important need. Raising awareness among police offi cers and the authorities, promoting adequate training curricula, and fostering targeted cooperation are necessary in order to protect LGBTI communities from hate violence and to support victims. However, it is equally clear that training the police is only part of more comprehensive strategies that are needed to achieve social change. To build inclusive societies, free from prejudice and hatred, is the only way to eliminate homophobic and transphobic attacks.
