2024 was a challenging year for LGBT communities in the EECA region, but at ECOM, we continue to act, support and protect. Today we share our annual report — a summary of the year in numbers and facts.

What was done in 2024:

  • 14 alternative reports were submitted to the UN, OSCE and other international bodies
  • 366 violations of LGBT rights documented — the cases were included in the reports for the UN and OSCE
  • Over 3,000 services were provided through the Emergency Support Fund
  • The first chemsex study in Kazakhstan was launched, along with a large-scale study on trans people’s access to medical services
  • The 2nd Regional Consultation on PrEP was held in Almaty (120 participants from 15 countries)

Key challenges of the past year:

  • Increasing pressure on LGBT communities
  • “Foreign agent” laws, bans on “LGBT propaganda” and increased censorship
  • Threats to activists and organizations

Despite this, we are adapting and continuing our work — together with our communities, partners and donors. Thank you to everyone who stands with us and believes in equality, health and human rights.
