June 1 marks the beginning of Pride Month, a time when the LGBT community around the world celebrates their identity, freedom, and the right to be themselves. The history of Pride Month begins with the events of the Stonewall Uprising in New York in 1969, a moment that started a new era in the fight for LGBT rights.

In the region of Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Pride Month takes on special significance. Despite increasingly difficult conditions, heightened discrimination, and repression, activists from different countries continue to speak out, fight for their rights, and inspire others with their example.

This year, we decided to collect and publish words of pride, support, and strength from members of our coalition:

These words are a reminder: Pride is not just a celebration, it is an act of strength and visibility. It is a way to say to ourselves and the world: “We exist. We live. We are proud.”

Why is Pride Month still important?

  • Celebrating diversity: Pride is an opportunity for LGBT people to be visible, share stories, strengthen their identity, and to be proud of themselves.
  • Educating and combating discrimination: It’s a time to remind society of the challenges the community faces — and that these challenges don’t just go away.
  • Support and solidarity: It’s a chance to show that LGBT people are not alone. We have communities, allies, and entire movements ready to fight for justice.

At ECOM, we support the courage to be yourself and advocate for a world where human rights do not depend on sexual orientation or gender identity. Let Pride Month 2025 be not only a celebration, but also a reminder: our voices matter, our fight continues, and our existence is a victory.
