Promotion and protection of the human rights of LGBT people in Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA) to improve access to HIV and SRHR services.
Project objectives
In 2025, ECOM will focus on the following areas identified by the consortium:
- Strengthening the resilience of LGBT groups and activists in EECA against external threats:
This includes assessing the needs and capacities of LGBT groups and activists in physical and digital security; conducting a regional online training for LGBT activists on monitoring, documentation, and advocacy; and building organizational capacity in financial management, partnership building, and communications. - Monitoring human rights violations against LGBT people in EECA and pursuing strategic litigation:
Activities will involve monitoring and documenting human rights violations affecting LGBT communities through a network of community-based observers; providing paralegal support to victims; and engaging in strategic litigation in selected cases with the potential to influence policy change. - Advocating for LGBT rights in EECA:
This includes developing reports on human rights violations and engaging in international advocacy using evidence-based data within the UN, OSCE, and other human rights mechanisms. - Communications:
A regional awareness campaign titled #RightTo will highlight human rights violations faced by LGBT people. - Promoting access to SRHR for young LGBT people in EECA:
ECOM will hold regional online consultations on SRHR for youth in EECA and implement a targeted LGBT youth SRHR strategy across the region.
