ECOM – Eurasian Coalition on Health, Rights, Gender and Sexual Diversity (ECOM) continues its continual journey to health development and support in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia region. On November 20, 2023, another meeting of the ECOM Steering Committee (SC) was held in Almaty, during which SC members made a number of important decisions.
Strategic changes. Taking into account the changing situation in the region, resulting from armed conflicts and new health challenges, members of the Steering Committee discussed possible changes to the strategic plan following its mid-term evaluation.
Fundraising and motivation. SC members discussed strategies for attracting funds and new members. Special attention was given to fundraising initiatives of the Steering Committee members, as well as the need to develop a strategy on how to work with women's and feminist organizations.
“For the first time, a meeting of the ECOM Steering Committee took place under the Central Asian sun. I believe that the coalition's extensive technical assistance experience will be a valuable resource for improving local services. The meeting helped to mark existing progress and coordinate our plans to bring positive changes in the field of health and rights in the region,” said Vitaly Vinogradov, Chairman of the ECOM Steering Committee.
Special attention at the meeting was paid to establishing effective interaction between the Steering Committee and ECOM members. In order to better understand the needs and preferences of the members, it is planned to carry out a survey. This will help to adapt communication and service delivery taking into account realistic expectations and demands.
In 2024, at the request of the Steering Committee, the ECOM Secretariat will organize a webinar where new members will be introduced and the annual report of the Steering Committee for 2023 will be presented.
Also during the meeting, a decision was made to accept new members that represent organizations from Kazakhstan.
