Today we present our annual report for 2023, in which we collected our most important achievements and successes.
Over the past year, ECOM demonstrated its sustainable development, its readiness to respond quickly to emerging challenges and adapt its work to the changing needs of the community in a dynamic environment.
Our main achievements in 2023:
- Conducted the First (sub) regional consultation on PrEP among MSM and trans people in Central Asia.
- Launched the second part of the TikTok campaign “We Are Alike.”
- Funded 28 projects for key groups as part of a program to reduce the negative impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine on key groups’ access to HIV services and humanitarian assistance in the CEECA region.
- Four country reports were presented (Azerbaijan, Russian Federation, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan) within the framework of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR).
- Launched a campaign to popularize PrEP in EECA among MSM.
- Collected 431 cases of human rights violations in 6 countries of the region: Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan.
“ECOM has strengthened its position in the EECA region, expanded its list of members and gained new allies. We have been working actively on health and human rights issues, increased our focus on community-led monitoring, and continued to provide technical assistance to partners. Last year, ECOM held the First (sub) regional consultation on PrEP among MSM and trans people in Central Asia – the first large-scale event on this topic, bringing together key stakeholders from Central Asia: representatives of LGBT communities from the countries, health experts, international organizations and donors,” summed up Vitaly Djuma, Executive Director of ECOM, in his introduction to the report.
