ECOM proudly celebrates the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), which is observed annually on May 17. This day is an important opportunity for us not only to celebrate progress towards equality and justice, but also to highlight the challenges and barriers faced by LGBT people both in our region and around the world.
At the heart of our work is the desire to create a more fair and inclusive society where everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, can live without fear, discrimination or violence. IDAHOBIT reminds us that it is important to continue our cooperation, keep up our efforts and unite in the struggle to achieve this goal.
It must be recognized that there are still a huge number of problems faced by LGBT people in many countries. Discrimination, violence, social exclusion and legal uncertainty remain serious obstacles to their full realization and freedom. At the same time, we are glad that more and more states and communities recognize the importance of LGBT people's rights and are working towards creating favorable conditions for their lives.
On this special day, we call on everyone – governments, non-governmental organizations, educational institutions, the business community and public at large – to join us in supporting and protecting the rights of LGBT people and creating a safe and supportive environment for the LGBT community. This includes developing and implementing legislation that protects the rights of LGBT people, creating education and awareness programs to combat homophobia, biphobia and transphobia, as well as mobilizing resources and supporting organizations that work in this area.
For the International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, we present a video (with Eng sub) in which our team spoke frankly about how different homophobic, biphobic or transphobic situations affected their lives and what mark they left in their soul. Each story is a powerful testament to how homophobia and transphobia can have a devastating impact on people's lives and well-being. Our team opens their hearts and invites each and every one to reflect on the problem and understand that each of us has responsibility in the fight against prejudices and stereotypes.
It is important to remember that the fight against homophobia, biphobia and transphobia is not exclusively the prerogative of the LGBT community. This is a task requiring the participation of every member of society. We call on everyone to openly speak out against homophobia and transphobia, condemn any form of discrimination and violence based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
We call on all the countries in our region to join international efforts to combat homophobia, biphobia and transphobia, to support activities aimed at raising awareness, and to create safe living conditions for LGBT people.
Together we can make our planet a place where every person, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, will be respected, accepted and loved. Joining the international community on this day, we call for doing everything possible to bring closer the moment when this dream becomes a reality!
