Today, May 17, we celebrate the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT). In 2022, the theme of this day around the world is: “Our Bodies, Our Lives, Our Rights”. This theme reminds us that LGBT people are faced with phobias every day. And our bodies are our lives. And we have the right to live freely and with dignity!
Every day, ECOM, together with representatives of the LGBT community, works to achieve this goal as soon as possible, and fights discrimination and stigma against LGBT people.
And today, we would not only like to congratulate all representatives of LGBT communities on IDAHOBIT, a day when we speak even louder about our rights. We would also like to remind each and every one of us of the importance of being yourself, being bright, and showing your individuality. Only by joining our efforts and supporting each other within communities can we change the world, people, and laws.
“The theme of IDAHOBIT this year is about the fact that every person can and should independently manage their body and their life.
On this day, we, the LGBT communities, declare that we have the right to our full sexuality and free gender expression, and that we do not want to be subjected to physical violence from other people, and structural violence from societies and states.
As we move forward, we develop our communities in order to gain strength in our common fight.
Finally, this theme clearly shows how the protection of the rights of LGBT people fits into the overall human rights context. Whether it's working to humanize drug policy, decriminalize sex work and protect the rights of sex workers, or the feminist movement - we are united by the desire for physical integrity and autonomy.
Only together can we create a world in which each and every one of us has equal rights and opportunities” — Vitaly Djuma, Executive Director of ECOM
We are change! Happy IDAHOBIT to all of us!
