ECOM is outraged by the military aggression of the Russian Federation against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and from day one condemned Russia’s military actions against Ukraine. From the first day of the military invasion of Ukraine, ECOM began providing support to our members and partners in Ukraine, as well as to community representatives and Ukrainians who need it, and continues to do so to this day.

During this time, ECOM has done and continues to do the following:

  • A position statement has been released condemning Russia's military actions against Ukraine.
  • ECOM has provided individual humanitarian assistance to ECOM members in Ukraine upon direct request, as well as support to organizations that support the community. ECOM is also developing a system to provide individual humanitarian assistance to all community members from Ukraine. We will provide information about this a little later.
  • ECOM supported the creation and operation of two shelters for LGBT people who are fleeing Ukraine because of the hostilities.
  • The provision of psychological support for LGBT people from Ukraine has been launched. ECOM has created a chatbot in which LGBT people and their loved ones can receive psychological or informational assistance from our consultants @ecomwork_bot.
  • Information is being gathered on possible migration channels for LGBT people. Useful information for LGBT Ukrainians is regularly published in ECOM’s social networks – Instagram and Facebook.
  • Updates were made for ECOM donors on the needs of the community and requests for additional funds for the allocation of humanitarian assistance.
  • ECOM Executive Director Vitaliy Djuma, as an alternate member of the Global Fund Board from the Delegation of NGOs from developed countries, facilitated the Board’s decision to allocate an emergency assistance of US$ 15 million by the Fund to ensure the continuity of HIV and TB services in Ukraine in wartime.
  • We are preparing a policy brief on the study of the impact of COVID-19 on sexual behavior and violence in relationships among people who take PrEP in Ukraine. Our study was based on data obtained before the war, but we assume that the war may disrupt the work of HIV prevention and treatment services in Ukraine, and also foresee an increase in the level of violence in relationships, the percentage of which was quite high in the pre-war period. With this document, we would like to urge donors and partners not to wait for the end of hostilities, but to direct maximum efforts to support organizations and the community in Ukraine now. The full version of the document will be available a little later.
