ECOM is outraged by the military aggression of the Russian Federation against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
Therefore, a position statement was issued on behalf of our organization.
On February 24, 2022, the army of the Russian Federation declared war against Ukraine, launching shelling of Ukrainian military and air bases.
The escalation of hostilities by the Russian Federation in Ukraine has led to numerous human rights violations, among which violations of the rights to liberty, security and life are of particular concern. The number of wounded and killed among civilians is increasing, which cannot be justified by anything.
ECOM is also concerned about the impact of military actions on the rights of vulnerable groups in the country, such as LGBT people, trans* people and people with HIV-positive status:
“For example, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree on general mobilization in the country, deciding to call up conscripts and reservists. In this regard, trans* women who did not have time to change legal documents, and trans* men as conscripts can be drafted without their desire. This can be an additional danger for trans* people due to the high level of transphobia in society.”
At this difficult moment, ECOM expresses solidarity with Ukraine, members of our coalition and our partners in Ukraine.
